This is a Christmas card, wishing you a merry Christmas. If you do not celebrate Christmas, no offense is meant. However, because I do believe in the Christ of Christmas; that He is the son of God; and his life, death, and resurrection on earth were essential for reconciliation with our Creator, I still wish you… maybe not this year, but some year… the joy of knowing Emmanuel, God with us.
It’s not close-minded nor mean-spirited any more than sharing any other good thing which comes into our lives. A tasty recipe for a healthy dish, a massage gift certificate, or a subscription to Peace & Beauty Monthly (okay, I made that up, but you know what I mean; something nice and edifying, suitable to the individual) never gets thrown back in one’s face as being pushy and hateful. If I truly believe what I “believe,” then yes, I think it’s the truth and anything contrary to it is not. But it’s not my place to shove that down your throat; I also believe it is the work of the Holy Spirit ~and His alone~ to draw the human spirit toward God.
Christians have earned themselves immeasurable bad press through the centuries, but none of that reflects Christ, his work, nor his plan for us. He is the Prince of Peace. And it is for Peace on Earth I wish this Christmas.
